Q&A

At MIM we are creating a genuine revolution, so we expect you'll have plenty of questions about our products! Don't worry, we can (and we want to) explain everything.

Here you'll find answers to some of our most commonly asked questions. But if you don't find what you're looking for, contact us and we'll be delighted to help you.

MIM BREAD

Yes. MIM’s bread is made without any ingredients of animal origin.

No. Our bread is made without additives or preservatives. So we recommend freezing the product to ensure it remains properly preserved.

It means we only use flour whose production has been certified organic.

Two slices of bread a day is the ideal quantity to help you repopulate your gut microbiota.

The consumption of MIM bread shouldn't be counterindicated (in other words, it shouldn't cause a problem) during pregnancy. As a precaution, however, we recommend you stop your treatment course with us until you've spoken to your doctor.

No. It is free from all types of added sugar.

It means that the production process prioritises manual over mechanical processes. In other words, we handle more than 50% of the bread production by hand.

Yes, but children who weigh less than 50kg (7.9 stone) should only consume one slice of bread per day.

Yes. Because it is made with flour produced organically, it is free of glyphosate.

Yes. So it doesn’t just taste good, it does good too.

Like all functional foods, MIM has a recommended consumption amount. While it is safe to consume more than two slices a day, you should remember that, like any other probiotic complex, MIM can produce gases as well as pain and swelling of the stomach.

Because MIM doesn't contain additives or preservatives, we recommend freezing the bread to ensure its optimal preservation.

That depends on the contraindications (potential harmful interactions) of your medication. If you are in any doubt, consult your doctor.

Because MIM acts in synergy with your own body, the time it takes to deliver results can vary depending on the state of your microbiota. However the average is between three and six weeks.

No. However, our bread is a functional food. That means it's a food that has a potentially positive effect on our health, beyond the benefits of basic nutrition.

Each MIM loaf contains 14 slices and we recommend consuming two slices a day. So each loaf equates to a weekly plan.

Yes, you certainly can!

Yes. Our bread is a functional food and its postbiotic complex has been clinically tested.

Our bread already offers the probiotic properties required to regulate your microbiota. So we recommend you don't consume it in tandem with other probiotic supplements.

Our breads are not suitable for celiacs. If you are celiac, unfortunately you won't be able to enjoy MIM until we offer a gluten-free product.

Yes you can combine them if necessary. However, we recommend sticking to one specific product for at least four weeks. Then you can start the next plan.

No,the benefits are the same. However, as a food rich in carbohydrates, we recommend consuming MIM in your first meal of the day.

SCIENCE AND NUTRITION

It's true - probiotics do lose their effect at high temperatures. But our breads are also enriched with postbiotics, which can withstand high temperatures without losing the effect of the probiotic action they offer.

Functional foods have a positive effect on your health above and beyond the individual nutrients they contain. This type of food improves the state of your general health and, therefore, reduces the risk of diseases. Functional foods contain active agents and/or are enhanced with superfoods to optimise your body's functions and, as a result, your wellbeing.

Organic foods are those that have not suffered any form of chemical manipulation during the production process. We rely exclusively on natural elements to create these foods, and we explicitly avoid the use of components like fertilisers and pesticides.

The microbiota can be damaged by many different behaviours including the abuse of antibiotics, the ingestion of foods with excess saturated fats and the direct consumption of toxins like tobacco. Other potential factors include a deficit of nutrients, stress or the intake of high levels of added sugar.

The most common symptoms of damaged microbiota include abdominal swelling, the presence of gases and chronic episodes of diarrhoea or constipation.

To restore damaged microbiota, it's necessary to change your dietary habits. So foods that contain postbiotics, like MIM's bread, can be beneficial in the replenishment and cleansing of your intestinal microbiota.

Sourdough is a type of ferment that doesn't require the addition of yeast. Generally, this ferment is composed of water and flour, and is made from grains like rye, which contain natural yeasts that originate from the fermentation process.

Sourdough is fermented naturally, which is why it takes longer to activate, and it's a great alternative for people who are sensitive to gluten or wheat, because it's easy to digest; that's why it's so often recommended in dietary guides.

It's also a highly nutritious dough and very beneficial if you have dietary problems like Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Prebiotics are special vegetable fibres that stimulate the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut. They are found in many fruit and vegetables, especially those that contain complex carbohydrates like fibre and resistant starch, and are present in a diverse range of products that are fundamental to our diet, like legumes or cereals rich in fibre, to name just two significant examples.

The microbiota in your gut are a group of living microorganisms that you have nurtured in your body from birth, and they are essential if you want to enjoy good health. Healthy gut microbiota will improve your digestion and help you combat infections, generating protective barriers against various conditions. In addition, these microbiota enhance protein nutrition by breaking down foods into nutrients that can then be absorbed by all the cells in your digestive tract.

Fermented foods are those foods that are transformed through an extension of microorganisms —for example, of bacteria or yeasts— to achieve their optimal conservation over a much longer period and generate unique tastes.

Fermented foods can be divided between those that contain living microbes (like yoghurt or kefir) and those that don't (like sourdough bread). Whatever their classification, these foods are an excellent way to give your body the probiotics it needs.

Not all probiotics come from fermented foods, but all fermented foods are probiotic.

Real fooding, as its name suggests, means genuine nutrition.

So-called 'real foods' are rich in nutrients and, among other benefits, help the body to maintain the equilibrium necessary for the correct functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.

The idea behind real fooding is to get back on the path of healthy nutrition. In fact, it's a revolution, designed to help us understand what we're putting into our body each day.

One of the core goals of real fooding is to avoid the consumption of ultraprocessed foods, which can generate negative effects for our bodies over time.

In other words, real fooding highlights the benefits of a healthy life, and shows how we can achieve these benefits by caring for our nutrition -- and truly enjoying our food.

Xeixa wheat, or Triticum aestivum as scientists call it, has been cultivated for hundreds of years and many different subspecies have emerged from it.

Although Xeixa has gradually disappeared from several parts of the planet, in Catalonia and especially the Balearic Islands (its native region) it continues to gain popularity through the efforts of local farmers.

Most commonly used in the production and preparation of baked foods, this high-quality grain offers innumerable benefits: It is less allergenic than other grains and easier for the body to digest, which makes it ideal if you suffer from allergies or digestive problems.

There are many reasons why sourdough bread is so highly recommended. In fact, we'll give you four of the most irrefutable ones below:

1. It improves digestion. Sourdough bread allows bacteria in the yeast to fulfil a crucial mission: predigest the starch. This allows our body to process acid masses more efficiently.

2. It contains lactic acid. Thanks to the high quantity of lactobacilii that sourdough bread contains, its consumption encourages the increased production of lactic acid and facilitates the digestion and absorption of minerals like potassium, magnesium and zinc.

3. It contains an array of vitamins and minerals. The sour fermentation is so complex that it nurtures a vast array of nutrients including vitamins B1 to B6, vitamin E, iron, magnesium, calcium, phosphorous, zinc y potassium.

4. It improves texture and taste. Sourdough bread is a great option to make your favourite recipes more tasty.

Postbiotics are the ultimate innovation in the care of gut microbiota.

They are bioactive components, produced through the bacterial fermentation that generates probiotics. These microorganisms help you reestablish the balance of your gut microbiota, which is essential for your health.

In fact, by acting as immunomodulators, postbiotics can have a beneficial effect on host health in many different ways.

Superfoods are those foods that contain an abundance of nutrients and other substances of proven benefit to the health of your body. Thanks to their nature and composition, these foods are a great source of fibre, vitamins and minerals. That is to say, they contain more natural properties than other foods and generate more positive effects on your health.

The microbiota are a collection of microorganisms that live symbiotically in our gut. These bacteria live inside our body and their principal function is to collaborate, during the digestion process, in the decomposition of ingested foods. In addition, the microbiota defend our organism against certain harmful bacteria, viruses and illnesses and, in turn, produce vitamins and absorb minerals.

Intestinal dysbiosis is a constant imbalance or excessive growth of the bacteria that make up our microbiota.

The microorganisms that reside in our intestine are indispensable for its proper functioning, so an intestinal dysbiosis can set in motion a series of pathologies that can ultimately affect our health.

Diet, physical exercise and the management of stress are among the most important factors when it comes to balancing the bacteria in our body. On the other hand, bad nutritional habits and a sedentary lifestyle may encourage the development of intestinal dysbiosis.

Symbiotic nutrition is the combination of probiotic foods (fermented foods that contain microorganisms similar to those found in our gut) and prebiotic foods (fibres that don’t give us nutrients, but reinforce the intestinal microbiota). The symbiosis of these two types of food helps to restore the balance of our intestinal flora and, consequently, enhance our general health.

Probiotic foodstuffs are living organisms that remain active in the intestine long enough to modify the microbiota, both by introduction and colonisation. These foodstuffs can have beneficial effects when consumed in sufficient quantities.

ABOUT MIM

Sixteen years ago, Quim Lorente, one of the founding partners of MIM Habits, suffered a variety of ailments: anaemia, lack of protein absorption, vitamin B12 deficiency, muscular weakness, tiredness, depression, apathy and excessive weight loss.

In the hope of restoring his health and his quality of life, Quim started investigating. Eventually he found a solution in the form of good nutritional habits, and realised the crucial role that balanced gut microbiota plays in our health.

During a dinner with Xavi Cortadellas, an entrepreneur with an exceptional gift for scaling innovative startups, Quim laid out his vision and the pair decided to share his learnings with the rest of the world, channelling the power of the startup model into the development of a new nutritional category: functional foods with immunomodulatory capacities.

Quim and Xavi worked on the principle that our body is designed and dedicated to healing itself. All they needed to do was find the right formula: one that would enable our bodies to protect us and so extend our quality of life.

Together, Quim and Xavi conceived a totally new type of bread that would help to heal the body from the inside. A bread that could be incorporated into our daily routine, with the aim of restoring the balance of our microbiota.

From this vision, MIM Habits and the MIM COMPLEX were born.

MIM is headquartered in Barcelona, its principal bakery is located in Menorca and its biotech research arm is in Madrid. We also have partners in the U.S. and UK.

The team includes an array of professionals and external partners covering the areas of science, nutrition, marketing, technology and, of course, baking.

Yes. Send us a DM and we'll provide more info.

Our bread is made in a bakery situated on the island of Menorca.
